Hope Springs Eternal is a serene semi-abstract oil painting of an autumn woodland path with a barn owl in soft oranges, magentas and amethyst. It is 36x36x1.5 inches. The concept of this painting was to concentrate less on details and more on the overall feeling of walking a woodland path. In the High Weald area of Sussex there are thousands of small woodlands and forests and each one has a distinctive atmosphere. Sometimes the path’s through are calming but other times they can be quite sinister. I always feel as if the trees are holding their breath when I’m walking beneath them, as are the hundreds of creatures who are no doubt watching my progress. There is a barn owl slightly hidden in it – she is simply there to bolster the magical quality I was trying to convey. Large semi-abstract landscape, seascape and wildlife original oil paintings (and prints - ask for a quote separately)

I am a UK-based artist creating large original expressive landscape paintings and fine art prints. They are inspired by birds, wildlife, nature, light and movement. My paintings combine semi-abstract techniques with a strong connection to real places, capturing the atmosphere of the British countryside and beyond. Each painting is designed to bring colour, energy and a sense of space into a home and is completely unique in style.
I often paint from memory as it better allows me to move beyond traditional realism and into magical realism using colour, texture and light to express the magic that is present in wild meadows, forests, seas and rivers. My technique is rooted in traditional oil painting and I build each piece with layers of glaze, texture, and intuitive, art nouveau like, brush stokes, letting the painting evolve organically just as nature herself does. Animals, pathways, and portals are recurring motifs in my painting’s, often as symbols of the mysteries that lie just beyond the visible. I am fascinated by the folklore and hidden stories woven into the countryside. I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world and its wildlife and to encourage its protection as well as to provide a place for viewers to escape beyond the mundane and be more curious about the spiritual.
