I painted this as part of my series on Columbus's Civil War–era architecture — but here I let a newer structure creep into the frame alongside the old one. A weathered orange-red brick wall, its surface broken up with the mottled, sun-worn texture I build up in oil and cold wax, holds a single deep-set window with a blue-glass reflection catching the light. Beside it, a stark white paneled wall rises in clean geometric blocks, its shadow cutting a hard blue diagonal across the pavement below. The contrast is the whole point — old brick versus new stucco, texture versus flatness, history pressed right up against whatever comes next. Painted on stretched canvas, unframed, on a standard stretcher bar (not cradled), ready to hang as-is or frame to taste.
